Follow Joe and Leah aboard SENECA

On the move again

Tomorrow morning I will wake up, make a cup of coffee, raise the mainsail, and cast off my mooring line that holds me to St John and the Virgin Islands.  I hope to see the sun rise off my stern,  under full sail, as I start my sail west and then north back to the east coast.  I should be drinking a sundowner on the Spanish Virgin Island, Culebra by tomorrow night.  I plan on hanging out on Culebra for a couple days and then Puerto Rico for a few more before making the jump to Turks and Caicos or Dominican Republic.  I am really glad I stayed these last two weeks instead of rushing off.  I was able to spend time with some friends here, finish the project that I have been working on for most of the season and earn another paycheck.  Seneca also let me know she was not quite ready by blowing an exhaust pipe on a sail back from Jost two weeks ago.  I was really happy that it happened here.  I was able to sail onto a mooring ball and get the part the next day to give a temporary fix.  Then last weekend I sailed to St Thomas and pulled into a marina slip for the first time in three years to charge the batteries and fix the engine properly.  She is running great now.  I can leave with even more confidence in Seneca and the wonderful Atomic 4 engine under me.  I hope to find plenty of wifi along the way and stay in touch.  I plan on taking about a month to get to South Carolina.
